Homer-Dixon, Thomas

Dr. Homer-Dixon was founding director of the Waterloo Institute for Complexity and Innovation. His interdisciplinary research focuses on threats to global security in the 21st century, including economic instability, climate change, and energy scarcity. His publications include Carbon Shift: How Peak Oil and the Climate Crisis Will Change Canada (and Our Lives) (2010), The Upside of Down: Catastrophe, Creativity, and the Renewal of Civilization (2006), The Ingenuity Gap (2000) (awarded the 2001 Governor-General’s Medal for non fiction), and Environment, Scarcity, and Violence (1999). His work has appeared in academic journals as well as The Globe and Mail, Foreign Policy, Scientific American, The New York Times, and The Financial Times. Dr. Homer-Dixon has delivered addresses to academic and general audiences around the world, and has consulted to senior levels of government in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
