About Open Collections
Open Collections brings together locally created and managed content from the University of British Columbia Library's open access repositories.
cIRcle
cIRcle is the University of British Columbia's digital repository for research and teaching materials created by the UBC community and its partners.
Archives, Rare Books and Special Collections
UBC Library acquires archival materials which document the economic, political, cultural, labour, and literary history of British Columbia and Canada as well as the history of the University. Archival material which is born digital or digitized is included in Open Collections.
UBC Library Digital Collections
UBC Library's Digital Collections consist of locally-created digital collections developed and maintained by the Library. Collectively they document a diverse range of people and places, activities and events, and serve as a resource for students, historians, genealogists, and other researchers. Most of this content has been digitized from material held at the Library.
Open Collections User Advisory
University of British Columbia Library works to describe materials in Open Collections in alignment with our values of openness, belonging, connection and curiosity. For various reasons, however, users of Open Collections may encounter inaccurate, offensive, and/or outdated representations and/or terminology, including language and depictions that are racist, sexist, and/or homophobic.
Some items’ descriptions reflect the perspectives of content creators, whereas others pull from database vendors and/or library classification standards. Additionally, content and descriptions reflect the time they were created and the views of their creators. While we retain archival information to ensure that attitudes and viewpoints are not erased from the historical record, contemporary materials undergo periodic review, assessment, and adjustment to better align with evolving anti-racism, decolonization, and equity practices. This is an ongoing process.
If you see material with problematic language that you think UBC Library should review, please consult our Culturally Sensitive Materials Statement and Process or Contact us.
All materials in Open Collections are openly accessible to anyone on the web, and will be preserved for future generations. Access to Open Collections materials is subject to our Terms of Use. PleaseContact us for further inquiries.
